Hi there,
In this guide you will learn how to optimize your MetaTraders to best perform in your VPS and the implications and reason for each optimization.
The first thing to understand is the reason to optimize the MetaTraders in the VPS and the expected results.
You most likely want to avoid negative slippage and have fast execution times, this is by far the MetaTrader and EAs in the VPS work.
Everything that is installed in the system will consume resources, and during times of high volatility the MT4 will drain more resources than usual.
Each chart, EA, Symbol, line in charts and notifications will have an impact on the VPS’ resources.
You will need to have in mind a couple of questions and answer them.
1 – Is this really necessary for trading in my VPS?
2 – Is this worth affecting my VPS’ trading capacity?
The answers could vary depending on each case and strategy, in most common cases you can ask your EA provider as 1 single installation of an EA in 1 chart with 1 symbol could suffice. And also a low level of bars could work with an EA.
Once this is clear for you and you know the minimal set up for your MetaTrader(s), you can go on with this guide.
1 – Closing down all unnecessary charts in the VPS.
This can be simply done by clicking the “X” in the top right corner of each chart.

2 – Hiding all symbols that are not in use.
Go to the Market Watch at the left pane of the MetaTrader, right click there and select “Hide All”.

Go to Tools -> Options -> Charts. Untick all options, reduce bars to 1 and press “OK”. Please double check with your EA provider if these settings will work with your EA before doing so.
3 – Tweaking chart settings.

4 – Tweaking notification settings.
Go to Tools -> Options -> Server and untick “Enable News”

Go to the Events tab, untick “Enable” and press “OK”
